The Vision Council's April 16 Member Insights Webinar Available for Download

Alexandria, VA – April 17, 2020 – The Vision Council’s second webinar presentation—U.S. Consumer Sentiment and Market Insights During the Covid-19 Crisis—is now available for download here. Presented by The Vision Council’s research team on April 16, the webinar highlights results from the latest VisionWatch report, including a detailed breakdown of consumers’ attitudes as well as industry and market insights from The Vision Council’s Eyecare Provider Survey, an ongoing research project aimed at gaining a broad understanding of how the market is reacting to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A few highlights from the presentation include:

  • Americans view the global and economic implications of the COVID-19 crisis as higher threats than personal and local community implications.
  • While most Americans are practicing heightened personal hygiene and avoiding public locations where they might contract COVID-19, wearing facemasks has lagged behind the other strategies.
  • More than half of eyecare providers and 81% of large optical retailers reported that some, if not all, of their practices and stores are closed because of the COVID-19 crisis.
  • The increased prevalence of virtual care and telemedicine, along with increased online purchasing activity and postponement of exams and optical purchases (rather than cancelling exams or purchases) may help limit industry losses from the COVID-19 crisis

The Vision Council will continue to host webinars throughout the year as part of the Member Insights Webinar Series focused on connecting, informing and uplifting the vision community during this challenging time.
