Vision Expo West 2023
-
Vision Expo West 2023, co-hosted by The Vision Council and RX, came to a successful close in Las Vegas on September 30, a span of days filled with educational and networking opportunities for exhibitors and attendees across the industry.
This year’s schedule featured several new event programs, including EYEnovate, a series of 15-minute talks by emerging leaders in the optical space, showcasing innovations in automation, AI, pharmaceuticals, and other advanced optical technologies that culminated in the awarding of the EYEnovate Ocular Horizons award to InflammX for their unique oral tablet therapy for retinal diseases. The Vision Expo Innovation Stage hosted panels on trending industry topics, ranging from AI’s incorporation in workflows to groundbreaking findings from the latest optical medical research. OptiCon at Vision Expo offered a comprehensive education program across disciplines, including precise frame fitting techniques and the secrets behind celebrity eyewear.
For members of The Vision Council, the All-Member Meeting and Reception allowed key industry players to congregate and discuss the latest market intelligence to guide business strategies and review The Vision Council’s governmental advocacy and updates to legal standards. The latest developments of The Vision Council Foundation’s Opening Your Eyes scholarship fund were discussed, which supports career pathways into the eyecare industry. Vision Expo West 2023 also served as an opportunity for The Vision Council’s committees to connect and develop strategies to drive further value for members. Members of the Data Communications Standard (DCS) Committee met to discuss ongoing progress to update the Standard to reflect the ever-evolving industry landscape. The Lens Product Description Standard (LPDS) Committee convened at Vision Expo to continue work on their new industry standard, which takes a more in-depth approach to the feature-rich designs available in the marketplace. The Government and Regulatory Affairs Committee also met during Expo, and introduced new members as the Committee expands and hopes to leverage industry experts to guide policy strategies moving forward. The committee discussed several topics, including emerging regulations impacting the optical industry, the upcoming 2024 political landscape, “Made in the USA” labeling approaches, and VisionPAC, to name a few. During the Marketing and Communications Committee meeting, strategies to enhance member engagement through education, trending and concise messaging, and strategic partnerships were discussed.
