The Vision Council Awarded the New York State Optometric Association’s Communications Award

Alexandria, VA (May 6, 2019) – The New York State Optometric Association (NYSOA) Board of Directors and Awards Committee has announced The Vision Council as the winner of their 2019 Communications Award.

The NYSOA Communications Award can be given to any newspaper, magazine, journalist, radio or television station for outstanding contributions to the visual welfare of the public via communications media. Through its various communication initiatives—including but not limited to its fashion and lifestyle campaign Eyecessorize, its digital eye strain campaign, its National Sunglasses Day/ultra violet campaign and continued support of Think About Your Eyes—The Vision Council aims to promote the growth of the optical industry and bring awareness to the importance of eyewear and eyecare for consumers.

"We are excited and honored to bestow The Vision Council with the NYSOA's 2019 Communications Award," said Dr. Jeffrey Calhoun, NYSOA president. "The Vision Council has successfully executed a number of effective and creative campaigns to promote eye health and the importance of regular eye exams. Our profession has benefited significantly from these efforts and we truly appreciate their excellent work."

The honor was first awarded in 1973, and prior to a brief hiatus in recipients from 2016–2018, winners include journalist Jane Brody, AllAboutVision.com, Dr. Cheryl Murphy, Dr. Andrea Thau and Dr. Justin Bazan among many others.

"We are thrilled to be recognized by the New York State Optometric Association for our communications efforts," said Maureen Beddis, The Vision Council's vice president of marketing and communications. "The Vision Council is dedicated to its consumer campaigns and committed to involving the eyecare provider community in spreading the importance of eyewear and eyecare among consumers. It is crucial that we continue this relationship to make a positive impact not only on the optical industry, but on the lives of consumers who are affected by their vision every day."

The Vision Council will be honored during the 124th Annual Meeting of NYSOA ceremony and dinner on May 10, in Saratoga Springs, New York.
