The report examines the prevalence of childhood myopia, various treatment options made available dependent on country regulations, and the U.S. eyecare provider’s approach to myopia management implementation. With a rising number of children diagnosed with myopia each year, the report highlights the growing adoption of treatment options in different country and underscores common risk factors and the importance of yearly screenings.

Report Methodology
This report is based on two studies:
- Eyecare Provider Survey — Conducted between June 16 and July 4, 2025, among 293 responding American optometrists, practice owners, and practice managers. The survey has a ±6 percentage point margin of error.
- Comparative Myopia Treatment Strategies — A study that examines regulatory status and product availability across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and the European Union, focusing on the four major treatment categories.
Key Findings
Risk Factors
- Providers believe that excessive screen time, genetics, and lack of outdoor activities are major risk factors for myopia development.
Monitoring Myopia
- An overwhelming amount of providers recommend myopia screenings at least once a year
- 9 out of 10 providers monitor their patients’ refraction changes to estimate the success of chosen myopia protocol
Treatment Challenges
- Cost of treatments was identified by most providers as a major challenge in implementing myopia management protocols for their patients
