Consumer inSightsPublished by The Vision Council, the data tables offer a trended analysis of select, top-line questions from our quarterly consumer survey report. Questions are included from all product categories, including vision correction, eye exams, eyeglasses, contact lenses, readers, and plano sunglasses. The report contains tables of trended results from survey questions, beginning in Q1 2022 and showing quarterly results through Q4 2024.

Examples of Report Insights

  • 61% of respondents had an eye exam in the past year, holding steady from previous quarters; however, 22% of respondents have gone more than two years without an exam.
  • The majority (86%) of eyeglass purchases occur in person. Of those with an eye exam in the last 3 months who also purchased prescription eyewear, 78% purchased their eyewear from their exam provider.
  • 35% of recent contact lens purchases were made online, down 5% from Q3. Many consumers (51%) are buying smaller supplies lasting three months or less.

Report Methodology

The data in this report is derived from the same survey behind the Consumer inSights Q4 2024 report. The Vision Council partnered with Full Circle Research to conduct an online survey of 12,021 U.S. adults between October 1 and December 10, 2024. Soft quotas by age, gender, income, and region ensured national representation based on U.S. Census Bureau data. The overall margin of error is ±0.9% at a 95% confidence level. Data reflect consumer-reported responses, not modeled estimates, allowing for consistent trend comparisons since 2022.
