Report Methodology
The Vision Council fielded the survey through a third-party consumer sample provider, Full Circle Research, and captured over 12,000 completed responses between October 1 and December 10, 2024. Key methodological details include:
Online survey of U.S. adults age 18+ using Full Circle’s consumer panel
4,000 completed surveys collected per month
Margin of error < ±1% for overall results; larger for subgroups
5% confidence level for statistical significance
Data was analyzed using advanced analytics techniques. Distinctions were made between prescription-related categories (exams, vision correction, managed vision care, and eyeglasses, lenses, and frames) and non-prescription products (plano sunglasses and readers) to ensure clarity in consumer behavior insights.
Key Findings
61% of respondents reported having an eye exam within the past year, consistent with previous quarters.
Most eyeglass purchases continue to take place in-person.
Online purchases accounted for more than one-third of recent contact lens sales.
67% of respondents indicated they have some form of managed vision care coverage.
Coverage varied by generation: 49% of Gen Z respondents reported employer coverage, compared to nearly 60% of Gen X respondents.
Why It Matters
Consumer insights are essential for understanding patient behavior, care-seeking trends, and the evolving vision care landscape. These findings support data-driven strategies for ECPs, retailers, manufacturers, and vision care providers.
