Report Methodology
This report is based on an online survey conducted monthly between July 10 and December 12, 2024, by Full Circle Research. A total of 3,052 Canadian adults (ages 18+) completed the survey in English or French using various devices. The data was weighted and validated to reflect national demographics, including age, gender, income, and region.
Key Findings
Vision Correction and Eye Exams
Over three-quarters of Canadian adults report using some form of vision correction. About 55% had an eye exam in the past year, but one in four had not seen an eyecare provider in more than two years—pointing to long intervals between exams for a significant portion of the population.
Insurance Coverage Gaps
Only 45% of respondents report having vision insurance, with coverage rates dropping sharply among adults aged 65 and older. Among insured individuals, most report partial rather than full coverage of vision expenses.
Product Purchasing Patterns
In-person purchases remain dominant across eyewear categories, particularly for prescription glasses. Roughly one-third of readers and plano sunglasses buyers say they typically buy more than one pair, while online eyewear purchases remain relatively low but stable.
