Report Methodology

This report is based on an online survey conducted monthly between January 1 and June 12, 2025, by Full Circle Research. A total of 3,077 Canadian adults (ages 18+) completed the survey in English or French using various devices. The data was weighted and validated to reflect national demographics, including age, gender, income, and region.

Key Findings

Vision Correction & Eye Exams

  • 82% of respondents use some form of vision correction, with 69% relying specifically on prescription eyewear (glasses, contacts, or Rx sunglasses).
  • 50% reported having an eye exam in the past year, while 30% had not seen an eye care provider in over two years, signaling continued opportunity for patient reactivation.
  • The Net Promoter Score (NPS) for eye exam providers was 46, indicating a highly favorable consumer experience across both independent and corporate practices.

Vision Care Insurance

  • 43% of Canadians reported having vision care insurance, with employer sponsored plans being the most common source (52%).

Product Purchasing Patterns

  • 47% of prescription glasses users purchased eyewear within the last year.
  • Purchases were fairly evenly distributed between independent providers (46%) and corporate/chain retailers (51%).
  • In-person purchases accounted for 87% of prescription glasses purchases, though a significant 34% of former online buyers returned to in-person shopping for their most recent pair.
