Ahead of the 2021 Executive Summit, taking place virtually January 26–28, The Vision Council is pleased to present a new Breakout Session Spotlight Series, highlighting each of the event’s breakout sessions.

Presented under the unifying concept of “The Pivot: Changing Your Mindset During Difficult Times,” attendees will have the option to experience the session of their choice on Wednesday, January 27 and Thursday, January 28.  The topics each day include: Senior Leadership Tactics, Marketing Strategies and Telehealth.

Adapting Marketing Strategies in the Age of a Pandemic

Erinn Morgan, Editor-in-Chief at Eyecare Business Magazine, will lead a marketing-focused breakout session designed to help marketing executives examine their own focus and define new ways of doing business during the pandemic and beyond. Key discussion points will include: social listening; the power of hosting virtual events; telling authentic stories to speak to the new normal; and the critical value of social and philanthropic efforts.

The Panelists

  • Jonah Berger, PH.D, is a marketing professor at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and the internationally bestselling author of Contagious, Invisible Influence, and The Catalyst. Berger has published over 50 articles in top-tier academic journals and has consulted for Microsoft, Google, American Express, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
  • Chase Fisher, founder and CEO at Blenders Eyewear, is considered one of the most forward-thinking online retailers today. He launched his San Diego-based sunglasses business by selling sunglasses out of his backpack while doubling as a surf coach. He leveraged his background as a sponsored athlete to develop sunglasses with scintillating style and adventurous spirit.

Storytelling in 2020: How It Changed and What It Taught Us

Moderated by Dee Carroll, Editor-in-Chief of INVISION Magazine, this panel will explore how high-touch, experiential, and service-oriented businesses pivoted their messaging to keep their consumers informed, engaged and reassured. The speakers will share their experience of pivoting their organization’s approach in 2020 to remain sensitive to current events and continue to serve their customers.

The Panelists

  • Michael A. “Mick” Kling, OD, Founder and CEO, Invision Optometry, one of the largest, single location optometric practices in San Diego. In addition to private practice, Mick is a consultant and speaker for Impact Leadership, which provides leadership, culture and business consulting for ECPS.
  • John Deluna, Vice President of Marketing, AEG Vision, brings more than 15 years of marketing experience across multiple optical and retail organizations. Most recently, John served as Vice President and Director of Marketing for the eyewear divisions of Walman Optical, the largest family of independent optical companies in the United States. In this role, John led all aspects of marketing support for large-scale accounts including Walmart, Costco, Sam’s Club and Eyemart Express, as well as full-scale marketing efforts for independent eye care professionals across the county.
  • Samar Younes, Vice President, Creative Director, SHOWFIELDS, a genre-defying experience that combines retail, art exhibitions and community, featuring the most interesting array of direct-to-consumer lifestyle brands ranging from the wellness, home, fashion spaces, and art experiences alongside food, drink concepts and live curated event programming.
