About This Role
The Vision Council’s Public Relations Manager will be an integral leader within our Marketing and Communications team. They will be responsible for strengthening brand awareness, industry authority, and strategic publicity for The Vision Council, The Vision Council Foundation, and Vision Expo. They will be responsible for media relations, public communications, coverage reporting and event PR.
Core Responsibilities
- Cultivate and maintain connections with influential journalists, and opinion leaders to enhance brand visibility, narrate our story, and position The Vision Council as an optical industry authority.
- Oversee the PR timetable, incorporating press release announcements, event news (Vision Expo), and pitch timings in line with primary marketing objectives.
- Oversee press and media events, particularly Vision Expo, ensuring the presence of essential media guests and coordinating meetings/interviews to drive coverage related to The Vision Council.
- Stay updated with media trends and content focus, suggesting avenues for innovative research, authoritative content, or insights to drive coverage.
- Shape yearly, periodic, and situational PR approaches, encompassing message framing, planned timing, and techniques within more extensive coordinated campaigns.
- Act as the connecting link among various departments, external collaborators, and the MarComm team, ensuring a cohesive communication approach is adopted.
- Actively find, formulate intriguing and persuasive media pitches, and ensure timely follow-ups on media interactions.
- Handle the dissemination of PR resources and coordinate interviews.
- Frame and circulate press briefings and key discussion points.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to design and oversee detailed short- and long-range communication agendas.
Desired Qualifications
- Between three and five years of public relations experience, either in-house or at an agency.
- A proven history or evident aptitude for fostering and sustaining media connections. Existing media relationships are preferred.
- Prior PR involvement with trade associations, NGOs, or non-profit organizations is desirable.
- Clear communication, strategic thinking, and practical problem-solving abilities, with a flair for thriving in a dynamic, team-centric setting.
- Aptitude in handling several simultaneous projects and tasks.
- Proficient in communication, especially in writing, complemented by a sound understanding of business principles.
