Chairman, Martin Bassett
Martin L. Bassett currently serves as the Chairman of The Vision Council, as well as the President and CEO of The Walman Optical Company, a diversified national wholesale optical firm providing products and services to independent optometric practices, insurance plans, retail eyecare centers and ophthalmic manufacturers. Walman has 1,000 employees and serves 9,500 customers through 39 offices located throughout the United States. Mr. Bassett assumed the duties as the Chief Executive Officer in February of 2001 after serving the company in the areas of finance and operations. Since 2001 the company has grown from a regional optical laboratory business into the largest independent wholesale optical company in the United States. Walman is recognized as one of America's 100 largest employee owned companies.
Mr. Bassett previously served as Chair of The Vision Council's Government and Regulatory Affairs Committee as well as serving as the Secretary and Treasurer. He is also a member of the Governance Board of Children's Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota and serves on the board's Quality Committee. From 2008 to 2012 Mr. Bassett was a member of the Board of Directors for Christopher and Banks Corporation (NYSE: CBK). While at CBK he served on both the Audit and Compensation Committees.
